The Story So Far
‘What You Don’t See’
Since The Story So Far released their acclaimed debut Under Soil and Dirt back in 2011, an intense level of hype has been built around the Californian pop-punkers. Second albums are hard to do, but as soon as first track Things I Can’t Change bursts into action, all doubts about What You Don’t See are quickly silenced. The Story So Far can definitely deliver.
Containing 11-tracks of unrelenting pop-punk anthems, this album goes for the jugular and refuses to let up. Throughout its 30-minute run time, Parker Cannon covers distance, failing relationships and feeling second best, all with the heartfelt urgency that has earned them their following. From the rallying cry of Small Talk’s “I’ll fight back with broken teeth” to Framework’s “splitting me in half again” refrain; there’s no shortage of sing-along moments. The strength of conviction that made Under Soil and Dirt great is still here but the lyrics are weightier, the band’s overall sound is tighter & emotionally deeper. This is the work of a band that has found their stride and knows how to play on their strengths.
If pop-punk isn’t your bag, What You Don’t See isn’t going to win you over. However if shouty choruses, hearty doses of anger and songs made for crowd surfing float your boat, this is an album you can’t afford to miss.
What You Don’t See is released 26th March 2013 via Pure Noise Records and you can also catch the guys live at The Asylum on the 4th May.
